ACCIPITRIFORMES: Accipitridae
Accipiter fasciatus
This Brown Goshawk, perched on a large fence post, is eating a small bird.
It was disturbed by my presence and flew off, taking the remainder of its meal with it.
I had a close look at the post and thirty centimetres down the hollow centre, quite inaccessible to the goshawk, were four tiny nestlings. I suspect that the Goshawk's meal was one of the parents.
The nestlings appeared to be House Sparrows and I have added a photograph of them to the House Sparrow page.
